Hello! My name is Rodrigo, I am 44 years old, single, and I work in the graphic

industry and as a photographer. I began my formal pilot studies at Aerosur, back

there around February 2013… partly by chance and partly by choice. One day a

Friend, got it, he invites me to go for a walk… and of course, he never really

finished inviting me who was already at the airport door, at Dinacias old entrance.

Upon getting off that night flight with Sebastián (the pilot), I had already decided that I was going to

carry out, so after a week I was doing the psychophysical test and after 15 days already I was at the

old place, attending the theory classes.

Obviously, like everyone who signed up for the course, it's because as kids we already dreamed of being or

astronauts or pilots, I haven't gotten to the first one yet… but you never know :P

They were very comforting moments, not without difficulties; the school had just begun and we did everything with our own effort, both the students and the instructors. Perhaps those were the best memories from that time.

During the course, there were (and there always continue to be) moments of great satisfaction and also the other kind… I remember in some of my first hours of flight coming down totally frustrated and angry because things just weren't working out for me (some instructor nicknamed me “Bolillero”… but that's another story) and consider giving up, but that obviously lasts only until you get home… At that moment, I was already scheduling a new lesson because the feeling of flying and being able to mimic the birds overcomes every obstacle.

My greatest joy during the course (and I think one of the greatest in the life of any pilot) is the FIRST SOLO FLIGHT… I remember it as if it were yesterday, it was at ADAMI (Melilla), August, a routine training flight with Mario, 7 am, just after dawn, sky blue and calm wind... my first flight had been delayed a bit for various reasons (lack of planes, weather, and especially the difficulty of the student)... We did a couple of laps around the track with some typical maneuvers for that phase, and the instructor says the classic 'WE'RE STAYING ON THIS ONE'... But there was a catch… the one who stayed was him, I left alone… and at that moment I felt a mix of nerves, fear, and pleasure… all at once!… I don't know

if it's possible, but that's how it was.

When going down, you obviously feel like Neil Armstrong or Maverick (Top Gun); that alone makes

the course worth it.

The school's opinion is obviously entirely positive; there I was able to fulfill, like so many others,

the dream of flying, meeting people, making friends, instructors, sharing stories (and living them),

discovering places, enjoying barbecues (especially), photos, photos… lots of photos and adventures.

The group of people and the teaching staff are excellent, one of the things I liked most about the

school It's the flexibility; they adapt to the student's schedule, it doesn't matter if you work, study,

during the day or at night, you always have the opportunity to learn and progress in the courses.

Therefore, if you are looking for a career… take a stroll, and if you just want (like me) to FLY as a

hobby, that's fine too!

My future plans are, as far as possible, to keep flying and probably take the course inter
mediate of Instrument Flight (HVI) that I'm already approaching the hours to do it… and maybe, why not, take the Commercial Pilot Course… you never know.

My humble advice is, if you feel like flying, don't look at your ID, don't think you’re too old, or how difficult would be or its cost... think that it will be the best experience you can live, and embrace it the whole course, not just when you take the last exam… If you already have “a few years”… don’t be scared!

There are many of us who are starting with a few years behind us, and I assure you that there are people older than you who are flying high and very happy. And most importantly: you will always have someone (an instructor, a pilot, or a more experienced student) who will share their experiences, give you advice, a mate, or simply give you what Aerosur gives you… being there with you, accompanying you and guiding you every step of the way… even after you graduate.

Our Students...

Hello, my name is Marcelo, I am 56 years old and I have training as a Marketing analyst.

I work at a financial company, in charge of security and collaborating in the commercial

department in business management. I am married, I have two children and two grandchildren.

Since my adolescence I am passionate about being able to fly, but due to financial or time constraints,

I never had the chance to do it. About three years ago, I saw an ad on Facebook.

I sent an email requesting information, and they replied immediately.

About a month later I got a call inviting me to a talk to see what I thought, we scheduled a time, and I went there.and I got hooked on doing something exclusively for myself... aimed at fulfilling my dream of flying. Because of work schedules, it wasn't easy to coordinate (since back then the classes were structured in groups, now it's much easier because they are private lessons and adapt to your schedule), but that’s where I started with the theory classes on Fridays at 8 PM. It was wonderful, and Martin, our instructor, and I were passionate about it.

When I started flight lessons, it was quite an adventure, something wonderful. Every flight was full of stories. I started my lessons with Mario and then continued with Leonardo, both amazing instructors. Because of my work schedule and since I would go out of town on weekends... it wasn't easy to coordinate times to fly. I mostly did it before going to work, in winter at 7 a.m... the cold at the airport was brutal, but once we were in the plane, we warmed up quickly!

All were very enjoyable moments, the ones that stayed with me the most were:

1) My first solo flight... I was all ready, and when the Tower gave me the conditions (wind, runway, QNH, and transponder code), I didn't manage to write down a single thing. I looked at Mario and asked, 'Did you write it down??' And he let out a laugh I’ll never forget.

2) My first solo flight.

3) The day of the flight exam when I got my license. It was amazing.

The voyages were also wonderful, more than once changing altitude or course because the clouds stubbornly wouldn't let me continue... On one occasion, Leonardo and I were doing Montevideo-Florida-Colonia-Montevideo. Upon leaving Florida, the clouds began to close in and in a hurry, I had to unfold the navigation chart, grab the plotter, and recalculate the return to Carrasco—a real feat for me, with Leo glancing at the GPS out of the corner of his eye, saying, 'It's okay... it's okay...'

As for Aerosur... impressive, the group of people, the constant support, the concern, the professionalism,

truly a place where one feels acknowledged and pampered, from the Management, the Instructors, and

Schoolmates. Always attentive and willing to lend a hand.

Now, two years after graduating as a private pilot, I enjoy going flying with my family and I hope to continue doing

so with my grandchildren, since they are still little (the girl is 3 years old and the boy is one year old). And also to

reinforce with some instruments for those moments when clouds or fog can make things a bit complicated.

This passion we have for flying is wonderful, but only as long as we understand that it must be done with the

highest level of responsibility for our safety and that of those who fly with us.
